This was a GREAT interview. I am a life long skier and am a perfect example of what Doug talked about. People know about and ski the big boys. If you are a Rockies - Midwest guy that means Alta, Snowbird, Jackson, Big Sky, Vail, Breck, A Basin, Winter Park..... Guilty as charged. However, because of a college internship I lived/worked at Red Lodge for a season. When it snows the skiing is great and the laid back vibe is tremendous. We family vacationed their several times and everyone loved it. I bought an Ikon pass many months ago but will likely defer it and put together a trip of a lifetime around Indy Pass and the Northern Rocky Mountain resorts. Taylor made for COVID times. Just like he said, I never heard of Tamarack, Brundage, 49 Degrees, Lost Trail Powder Mountain, Silver Mountain.....But I went to their web sites to look up stats. 300 inches+, 1,800 to 2,500+ vertical and most allow an RV to park overnight. The big ones are fun but this could be the new staple!
Awesome podcast, and great show. i just found you (thanks liftblog!). the willingness of Doug to get into the nitty-gritty of the pricing model, payouts, and the economics of things (and even show his "future cards") is really cool.
Great interview! Hard to believe the maximum days someone got was so low and the revenue per day for the ski areas was so high! Really nice overall to hear that the program seems to be doing well!
